The Bone Caves

A weekend staying at Achiltibuie in the lovely Summer Isles Hotel - great chance to take Rafie on the short but lovely Bone Caves walk in Assynt

We set off from The Bone Caves car park between Elphin and Inchnadamph (A837, NC253179) and followed the excellent path along Allt nan Uamh, past waterfalls and springs, beneath the crags and cliffs of the Assynt limestone.

A large spring comes out from under the limestone of the northern cliffs - Fuaran Allt nan Uamh - an amazing sight...

Rafe - nearing The Bone Caves

Above the spring, the river ran dry, and we crossed the stream bed to the path on the south side of the glen. The path led us gently up to the caves in the cliffs...

Before following the path further east to the head of the glen, where it contours around and returns west along the north side of the glen, with great views of the caves above.
